Solar Panels

Keilor Central and owners Fort Street Real Estate are at the forefront of environmentally friendly retail solutions. In fact, we installed a 400kW solar system that produces 540,000kWh’s pa. This results in 578 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere annually.

Fort Street Real Estate is so committed to sustainable practices that they are planning to roll out similar projects in conjunction with Energy Aware across other retail centres right around the country.

Energy Aware's project manager Mack Thomas is proud of his company's contribution to this fast growing and important industry. Mack provides a tailored approach to his clients, over 6,000 and growing, that helps guide each and every one to a more sustainable future.

“Our company was founded in 2009,” Mack says, “and is comprised of an innovative group of professionals who are very excited by the economic and environmental opportunities associated with the transition to clean technology.”

Mack has also assured us that the solar panels are extremely durable and have been installed by CEC accredited electricians.

Aldi B-cycle Battery Program

You can recycle your household batteries at Aldi!

What batteries can be recycled at Aldi?

AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and rechargeable.

Why is it important to recycle batteries?

Not only does battery recycling prevent unnecessary landfill but it also prevents nasty chemicals from leaking into the environment that can harm plants, wildlife, soil and/or waterways.

Did you know since 2013, ALDI has recycled over 351 tonnes of batteries, let’s all get involved and work towards a sustainable future.

Clothing Donation Bins

At Keilor Central you can recycle your unused clothing, handbags or shoes via the King Cotton donation bins located in the North car park (near the Aldi entrance).

According to King Cotton, 85% of all unwanted clothing in Australia ends up in rubbish bins. Let’s work towards reducing this!

Since 1980 King Cotton has prevented 200,000 TONNES of unwanted clothing destined for landfill. In addition;

  • Approximately six million kilos of clothing is recycled annually through this program
  • up to 95% of donated materials are reused or recycled both locally and by developing countries and
  • Over $1.5 million have been donated to charity partners such as the ‘Make a wish’ foundation.

Did you know that every kilo of recycled clothing saves over 6000 litres of water in the reproduction of cotton.

So, next time you go through your clothes instead of placing them in the rubbish bin, drop them at one of our donation bins at Keilor Central to do your part in helping a circular economy.
